New Delhi Aug 12(ILNS): The Supreme Court judge Justice Rohinton Fali Nariman, who retired on Thursday, received a heart-warming farewell from subordinates and colleagues from the judicial fraternity, with Chief Justice of India N.V. Ramana calling him a “lion of a judge”, known for his erudition, clarity, and scholarly work.
Justice Ramana said in his seven-year tenure, Justice Nariman disposed of more than 35,000 cases. “We are losing one of the strong pillars of Supreme Court, who has always stood for truth,” noted the CJI.
Advocate Puneet Jain said, “I have seen him as a Judge and also as an Advocate. As an Advocate, he was very sharp, he used to understand the matter in just 10 minutes. As a Judge also, it was very easy for all of us to argue because your lordship used to have a thorough knowledge of the matter.”
Senior Advocate Ranjit Kumar said, “The change from Advocate to the Judge was amazing. He always used to give time to Advocate and he always uses to listen to advocates very patiently. He has a stellar memory of case laws”
Senior advocate and former president of the Supreme Court Bar Association Dushyant Dave said, “The young bar has learned a lot from Justice Nariman in this tenure of seven years.”
Senior Advocate K.V. Viswanathan expressed, “Justice Nariman has adorned the Supreme Court for the last 42 years. His contribution is enormous, he has brought out the best in the bar. I wish him a very full-filling and happy life ahead.”
Additional Solicitor General Aishwarya Bhati gave Justice Nariman the status of ‘God’. She said she learned a lot from Justice Nariman and wished him a prosperous life ahead.
Advocate Aristotle praised Justice Nariman will for his ‘extraordinary memory’. “His Authoritative voice will be missed by all of us in the bar. We have learned a lot when we appeared in front of Justice Nariman,” he added.
Senior Counsel R. Basant called him a ‘multifaceted personality,’ who enjoyed his work.
Advocate-on-Record in Supreme Court Diksha Rai said, “The judgments of Justice Nariman were like a teacher giving a lecture. We learned a lot from you, Justice Nariman.”
The Supreme Court Bar Association is also organizing a farewell for the retiring judge later today./ILNS
