What happened to the second dose, Delhi HC asks Delhi Govt

-

New Delhi, June 2 (ILNS): The Delhi High Court today directed the state government to let the court know by Friday when the government will provide the second dose of Covaxin to those who have already got their first dose.

Justice Rekha Palli asked the government counsel to take instructions on “Whether they will be in a position to offer Covaxin to those who have got their first dose, before the expiry of six weeks period?”

The court was hearing the petition filed by a man seeking directions to ensure that he will get his second dose of the Covaxin vaccine, as the first dose was administered by the Delhi government earlier last month. Despite repeated representations to the authorities, he wasn’t told when he would be getting the second dose. He has sought directions to inoculate him with the second dose of Covaxin within the prescribed period.

Today, during hearing, he informed the court that he has already got the second dose from Mereut, Uttar Pradesh. The petitioner’s counsel submitted that he had to drive down to Meerut and was lucky enough to get it. He argued that he doesn’t want to press his Prayer A but his Prayer B is maintainable. He has sought directions to the Delhi Government to make the Second Dose of appropriate vaccinations available in New Delhi.

Justice Palli asked the respondents: “What is happening to the second dose? People who have taken the first dose on May 1-3 have their second dose pending. We opened 100 centres and were giving them free. What happen to second dose? The bench asked if the government if it will be able to vaccinate all those people who have got the first doses, within six weeks of expiry or not.

There was the other issue before the bench, a plea filed by those aged between 18 and 45. This was about the centres managed by the GNCTD. “The grievance of the petitioners is that though they are already eligible for the second dosage, the government is not providing them the same.

The matter will now be heard on June 4. ILNS\AA\SJ
