WB Post-poll violence: Calcutta HC extends NHRC probe to July 13

New Delhi, Jul 2 (ILNS) The special five-Judge Bench of Calcutta High Court today ordered statutory registering of all cases and extended the NHRC team’s investigation to July 13.

The Bench, led by Acting Chief Justice Rajesh Bindal, had on Wednesday received a brief report from the seven-member NHRC team, now visiting the state to look into the complaints.

Today, the Court asked the state government to ensure that all victims receive medical treatment. There have been 541 complaints lodged, against which the Bench had directed the NHRC to set up a panel to examine all complaints with it and with the West Bengal Legal Services Authority.

The court also asked the state Chief Secretary to preserve all documents related to post-poll violence. ILNS/SJ/RJ/SNG
