New Delhi, May 28 (ILNS): Against a plea in the Delhi High Court, asking for immediate vaccination of children between 12-17 years in Delhi and also to prioritize the vaccination among parents of such children, a bench of Chief Justice DN Patel and Justice Jyoti Singh today sought the response of the Centre and the Delhi government. The bench will hear the matter on June 4.
The petition has been filed by legal guardians of minors through advocates Bihu Sharma and Abhinav Mukerji. The petitioners stated that the second wave of Covid-19 has not only shaken the entire nation but has also affected children. The plea says that the vaccine policy of India does not favour that age group and their parents.
The PIL declares that the respondents have not dealt with the situation diligently and have failed miserably to prepare a national plan for children coherently in accordance to the Disaster Management Act 2005, which recognize children and their vulnerability during a “biological health emergency”, such as the current pandemic.
The PIL states that the children have been denied their fundamental rights under Article 14 and 21 of the Constitution. The petitioners say the biggest problem with this generation is that they are being confined to the house and not even given any priority. The plea says that the 12 -18 age-group is a large part of the population. Without protection, it will make things worse in the future. ILNS\KR\SS\SJ
