Vacant posts in Irrigation department: Allahabad High Court seeks UP govt’s response

Allahabad Jul 29(ILNS): The Allahabad High Court sought information from the state government’s Advocate in two weeks regarding the remaining vacant posts in the Irrigation Department in 3210 Tube-well operator recruitment.

A Single Bench comprising of Justice Ashwani Kumar Mishra passed this order on Wednesday while hearing a petition filed by Vijay Kumar and 26 others.

In compliance with the previous order passed, the Senior Counsel for the petitioner placed before the Court, the Irrigation Department’s Tube-well Operators’ Service Rules, 1953, in which a specific provision of waiting list exists.

The Council has placed before the Court an order dated August 19, 2020, passed by the State Government, which records that against 3210 vacancies, for which recruitment process was initiated, the Commission has already furnished a list of 3210 candidates and therefore there is no vacancy.

The Court, however, questioned with reference to the subsequent communication of the Senior Staff Officer on behalf of Chief Engineer dated October 19, 2020, which categorically records that 672 vacancies still remain out of 3210 vacancies advertised earlier.

The Court observed that recital in the order dated August 19, 2020, passed by the State Government that all vacancies are filled is factually incorrect.

The Court allowed two weeks time to the Standing Counsel to obtain specific instructions in that regard. The Court has fixed the next hearing of the petition on August 16, 2021./ILNS/AP/SV/SNG
