Teachers Recruitment scam: Delhi HC extends parole of former Haryana CM Om Prakash Chautala

-

New Delhi, Mar 9 (ILNS) The Delhi High Court extended the parole till April 12, granted to former Haryana Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala, who was sentenced to 10 years jail in the Teachers Recruitment scam case.

A divisional bench of Justices Siddharth Mridul and Anup Jairam Bhambhani directed the Delhi Government to file an affidavit, in addition to the relevant record in the plea, seeking benefit of special remission.

The petition filed by Chautala contended that he must have been released earlier, considering his age and disability as he lies under the Central government’s notification, where prisoners above 60 years of age, who have served half of their sentence, were allowed to be released.

The Counsel appearing for the petitioner submitted that Chautala has almost undergone entire incarceration, however, the Delhi Government has not granted any special remission to him.

Chautala had been convicted in the illegal recruitment of 3206 junior teachers in 2013. ILNS/SNG/JR
