Supreme Court disposes of ‘infructuous’ plea on the removal of Rajasthan Waqf Board chairman

-

New Delhi, Oct 8 (ILNS) The Supreme Court today declined to hear the petition challenging the removal of former Rajasthan Waqf Board Chairman Syed Abu Bakar Naqvi by the Rajasthan High Court and dispose of it as infructuous since the chairman’s term of five years had come to an end.

The Bench of Justice Hemant Gupta and Justice V. Ramasubramanian was to interpret the term “social work,” but since the petition became infructuous as the term elapsed, the Court declined to entertain the plea on Wednesday, leaving the question of law open.

Earlier on June 4, 2018, the apex court had issued notice to the Rajasthan government and the Rajasthan Waqf Board (RWB) on a plea challenging the removal of former RWB Chairman Syed Abu Bakar Naqvi by the Rajasthan High Court.

The Rajasthan High Court had removed Naqvi from the post of Chairman, stating that the Rajasthan government had violated certain provisions of Waqf Act 1995, while nominating Naqvi for the post./ILNS/KR/SNG/
