Supreme Court Collegium recommends elevation of 4 advocates as judges of Madras High Court

Madras Sept 4(ILNS): The Supreme Court Collegium, recently, has recommended names of four Advocates for elevation as Judges of the Madras High Court. 

In the meeting held on September 1, 2021, the Supreme Court Collegium, headed by Chief Justice of India N.V. Ramana, approved the proposal for elevation of the following Advocates as Judges in the Madras High Court:

1. Smt. Sundaram Srimathy2. Shri D. Bharatha Chakravarthy3. Shri R. Vijayakumar4. Shri Mohammed Shaffiq

The Madras High Court has a total sanctioned strength of 75 Judges, which consists of 56 Permanent Judges and 19 Additional Judges.

According to the ‘List of Supreme Court and High Court Judges’, published on September 1, 2021, by the Department of Justice, Ministry of Law and Justice, the Madras High Court is currently working at a strength of 56 judges, including 46 Permanent Judges and 10 Additional Judges.

After the clearance of the aforementioned names by the Government, the working strength of the Madras High Court would rise to 60./ILNS/KR/SNG
