New Delhi, Oct 8 (ILNS) The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the appointment of 25 new judges in seven High Courts of the country.
The Collegium, in its meeting held on October 8, approved the proposal for the appointment of Advocate Sakya Sen as Judge in the Calcutta High Court.
In a notification issued today, the Collegium stated that it has approved the proposal for appointment of Shubha Mehta, Judicial Officer, as Judge in the Rajasthan High Court and also approved the proposal for appointment of Soubhik Mitter, Advocate as Judge in the Calcutta High Court.
On October 7, the Collegium had recommended the appointment of 10 Additional Judges as Permanent Judges in the Punjab and Haryana High Court. These include:
1. Justice Suvir Sehgal,
2. Justice Alka Sarin,
3. Justice Jasgurpreet Singh Puri,
4. Justice Ashok Kumar Verma,
5. Justice Sant Parkash,
6. Justice Meenakshi I. Mehta,
7. Justice Karamjit Singh,
8. Justice Vivek Puri,
9. Justice Archana Puri, and
10. Justice Rajesh Bhardwaj.
On October 6, the Collegium had approved the proposal for the appointment of 10 Advocates as Judges of four High Courts across the country. For Madras High Court, the Collegium recommended the name of Advocate J. Sathya Narayana Prasad as Judge, whereas for Rajasthan High Court, the Collegium approved the names of four Advocates for judges. These include:
1. Kuldeep Mathur,
2. Maneesh Sharma,
3. Rekha Borana, and
4. Sameer Jain.
Similarly for Allahabad High Court, Advocate Manu Khare was chosen as a Judge and for Karnataka High Court, the Collegium approved the name of the following Advocates as Judges:
1. Anant Ramanath Hegde,
2. Cheppudira Monnappa Poonacha,
3. Siddaiah Rachaiah, and
4. Kannankuzhyil Sreedharan Hemalekha
