Special oxygen plants being installed, Centre tells Delhi HC

-

New Delhi, April 20 (ILNS): The Centre today told the Delhi High Court that in order to meet the demand of oxygen, 8 Pressure Swing Absorption (PSA) Oxygen Generation plants are being installed in Delhi with the support of PM CARES Funds.

In an affidavit filed by Centre in Delhi High Court, it said: “In order to ensure continuous supply of oxygen for medical purposes, the use of oxygen for industrial purposes has been banned except for certain critical industries w.e.f. Apr 22.”

The issue has come up because of a reported deep crisis of oxygen for Covid patients.

A Pressure Swing Absorption (PSA) Oxygen Generation plant separates oxygen from compressed air, utilizing a pressure swing adsorption technology. Compressed air, which consists of approximately 21% oxygen and 78% nitrogen (in nature), is passed through a bed of zeolite molecular sieve (ZMS). The sieve preferentially adsorbs nitrogen and moisture, allowing the oxygen to pass through.
