SC to pronounce verdict in extension of loan moratorium tomorrow

New Delhi, Mar 22 (ILNS) The Supreme Court will pronounce it’s judgement tomorrow in the matter of extension of loan moratorium.

The three-Judge Bench of Justices Ashok Bhushan, R Subhash Reddy and MR Shah had reserved the verdict on December 17 last year, after hearing the petitioners, the Central government, RBI and the intervenors.

Advocate Vishal Tiwari, appearing on behalf of the petitioner, had sought modification of the original prayers in the petition, related to extension of moratorium period up to December 31 on the ground that the present situation demands and necessitates that the moratorium shall be extended and granted up to March 31, 2021.

On November 19, the Centre had urged the apex court bench not to intervene and provide further relief to borrowers under Article 32.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta informed the Court today that many relief packages and schemes had been worked out with technical experts and the intervention of the Court. ILNS/SNG/RJ
