New Delhi, May 17 (ILNS): Civil Rights activist Tehseen Poonawalla today wrote a letter to the Chief Justice of India, requesting him to constitute a committee, which will review the government’s preparedness and policy formation to tackle a possible third wave of COVID-19 and “save lives of children”.
According to the letter, there has evidently been a steep increase in the cases of Novel Coronavirus in the country, with a rise of 3,11,170 lakh new cases as of May 16 itself. This proves that vaccination be allowed for all age groups.
Ms Poonawalla said the government’s premature celebration, unscientific approach and a lack of foresight have “led us to this current catastrophe. Unfortunately, there is still no action plan or formula put in place by the government to protect those below 18 years of age, as India has more that 165 million children, who are less than 12-year-old”.
He wrote: “Amid a vaccine crunch in India, the antidote to the third COVID-19 wave is a combination of health infra and a massive vaccination outreach. In the US, the government has already authorised the use of Pfizer’s vaccine on kids.” ILNS\SS\SJ\RJ
