New Delhi, Jun 30(ILNS) The Supreme Court today asked Yog Guru Swami Ramdev to produce the original video and transcript over his alleged remarks against Allopathic Doctors over the treatment of COVID-19, and posted the matter for further hearing on next Monday.
A three-judge bench led by the Chief Justice NV Ramana while hearing a plea filed by Swami Ramdev seeking stay of proceedings in multiple FIRs lodged against him in various states over his remarks on Allopathy in which he criticised doctors over the treatment method for Covid-19 cases, posted the matter for next Monday and asked him to file original videos and transcripts of his remarks.
During the hearing today Senior Advocate Mukul Rohatgi appeared for Baba Ramdev and submitted that he is a proponent of yoga. He also clarified that his client has nothing against the doctors and he is entitled to have a view. There are all kind of FIRs filed against him all over the Country. When he got CORONIL all doctors went against him. He has freedom of speech too.
Justice Hrishikesh Roy asked the Yog Guru, “you haven’t placed the whole thing?” “what is the original thing you said?” asked the Bench.
Senior Advocate Mukul Rohatgi replied that he will file the original video and transcript and asked to list the matter for Monday.
Recently in Social media and TV News channels a video became viral, where the Yog Guru alleged that, “Allopathy is a stupid and diwaliya science”. Further, in the same video, Ramdev also claimed that “lakhs and lakhs of people died because of administering Allopathic medicines rather than a shortage of oxygen” amid the Covid-19 crisis.
Following Ramdev’s remark against Allopathy, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) sent Ramdev a legal notice asking him to recall his words and to publish a written apology in national newspapers. The IMA also released a press release asking “Union Health Minister to either accept accusation and dissolve modern medical facility or prosecute him and book him under Epidemic Diseases Act.”
After two FIR were lodged against Ramdev, One in Patna and other in Raipur, he approached the Supreme Court seeking that the one of the FIR’s should be quashed and the other should be transferred to Delhi. He also sought that no further FIR should be lodged against him with respect to this matter.
The court will resume hearing the matter next Monday.ILNS/KR/SNG
