Police ought to be more diligent in probe: Delhi HC

-

New Delhi, Jun 14 (ILNS) The Delhi High Court today issued notice in a Habeas Corpus petition filed by a woman for her 16-year-old daughter, who is missing since March 17, 2021.

“Police ought to be more diligent in investigation,” said a Division Bench of Justice Navin Chawla and Justice Asha Menon.

Justice Asha Menon remarked, “She (missing girl) was familiar with three boys and the investigation only covers two of them.”

Advocate Manika Tripathy, appearing for the petitioner, argued that police is not doing anything about the case and that there is no progress in tracking the whereabouts of the girl.

She further alleged that one of the accused indirectly indicated that the girl will return in 2-3 days and the Police still have not done anything with regards to his statement.

The Counsel, appearing for the GNCTD, argued that this might be a case of Human Trafficking and the case shall be transferred to the Human Trafficking Unit, Crime Branch.

“Let status report be filed and transfer the case to Crime Branch,” he said.

The Court has directed the state to file a status report by June 17, 2021. The matter is listed for further hearing on June 18, 2021.

A Habeas Corpus plea has been filed in a case, wherein a 16-year-old minor girl has been missing since March 17, 2021. It was submitted by the state that the FIR was registered on March 28, 2021, and the investigation is underway. It is alleged in the plea that the police is not doing its job and the investigation leaves many questions unanswered. ILNS/
