Courts Update Petition in SC on alleged violence in West Bengal

Petition in SC on alleged violence in West Bengal

-

New Delhi, May 4 (ILNS): Advocate Gaurav Bhatia, also a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has filed a petition in the Supreme Court, alleging that there have been brutal violence, murders and rapes happening in West Bengal, post the Trinamool Congress’ thumping win over the BJP in the recent assembly elections.

Bhatia’s petition says that what has happened in West Bengal is a violation of human rights and should be investigated by the CBI.

According to Bhatia, Mamta Banerjee should abide by the Constitutional oath she took to protect lives of West Bengal’s people.

The Indic Collective Trust has moved the top court, also seeking directions to the Centre to deploy central protection forces, including armed forces, for the restoration of law and order in West Bengal.

Bhatia has sought directions to the CBI to file a detailed status report qua the FIR’s registered, arrests made and steps taken by it against the perpetrators of the crime mentioned in the application. The instant application has been filed in the pending Criminal Writ Petition 185 of 2018, before the Supreme Court named gaurav Bhatia Vs. State of West Bengal & Ors.

That application states that one Mr Avijit Sarkar, in a video uploaded on Facebook, moments before his death, highlighted how the TMC workers not only ransacked his house and NGO, but also mercilessly killed voiceless puppies. Mr Sarkar in his video especially blamed TMC leaders for the attack and his eventual death.

The application alleges that as per media reports, this violence is directly sponsored by the ruling party through its workers who are seeking revenge against the citizenry of the state which has exercised its democratic right of voting for a party other than TMC.

The plea also alleges that the perpetrators of crime who should be booked and punished in accordance with law are being protected by the ruling dispensation. ILNS\KR\SJ
