Cuttack, Jun 22 (ILNS) The Orissa High Court today refused to hear a matter after the Counsel appearing in the matter behaved in a discourteous manner,
The Bench, led by Justice Biswanath Rath, noted, “This Court disapproves the manner of conducting the case by the Petitioner and declines to hear such Counsel.”
The petition was filed by a student seeking admission into B Com course at Ravenshaw University for the academic session 2020-21. The plea further sought direction to the University to accept her documents and allow her to take admission in the varsity.
The Counsel for the petitioner relied on certain judgements, copies of which were not on record, when the matter was taken up for hearing. “It is, at this stage, Mr B Das, Counsel for Petitioner became rough to the Court and behaved in discourteous manner. This Court disapproves the manner of conducting the case by the Petitioner and declines to hear such Counsel,” underscored the Bench.
Considering the urgency involved in the matter, it was being heard giving priority over other cases. However, on account of discourteous behaviour of the Counsel for the petitioner, the Bench directed for delisting the matter and placing the same before another Bench, after obtaining consent of the Chief Justice of High Court.
The plea contended that the petitioner’s name appeared in the merit list prepared by the Ravenshaw University, pursuant to which, she was given admission upon depositing requisite fees. It was further contended that thereafter, she was not allowed to pursue her studies through online basis on the ground that she has not submitted documents, even though she had already submitted the same.
