Manipur Aug 16(ILNS): The Manipur High Court on August 12, disposed of a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking constitution of separate Autonomous District Councils for the newly created Four Hill Districts of Manipur.
The PIL was filed by one Simon Kamei seeking direction to the authorities to constitute and establish separate Autonomous District Councils for the newly created 4 (four) Hill Districts of Noney, Kangpokpi, Pherzawl, and Kamjong in the State of Manipur.
The Division Bench comprising of Chief Justice Sanjay Kumar and Justice Lanusungkum Jamir heard L. Sevananda, Counsel, appearing for the Petitioner and N. Kumarjit, Advocate General, Manipur, for the State respondents.
During the hearing, the Court observed that the second additional reply affidavit filed by the State authorities reflects that the State Cabinet took a decision on March 27, 2021, for the creation of Autonomous District Councils for the newly created Hill Districts of Kamjong, Tengnoupal, Pherzawl, and Noney, and directed that election should be held to these District Councils along with others.
In the light of this development, L. Sevananda, Counsel for the petitioner, would fairly state that the grievance canvassed in the PIL stands settled , the court said and disposed of the PIL./ILNS/SS/SNG
