Madras HC directs state govt to issue instructions to food packaging industry not to dip tongue by finger for separating covers

-

Chennai, Jun 8 (ILNS) The Madras High Court has asked the State Government to issue instructions for all Hotels, Restaurants, Bakeries, Groceries and all types of Food Packaging Industries to educate its employees not to dip the tongue by finger to separate all types of covers and not to blow to enlarge covers, which are used to pack food items.

According to the public interest litigation, the usual practice of employees at hotels, restaurants, bakeries, groceries and food packaging industries, seeking to separate paper or open covers by either touching their fingers to the tongue or by blowing into covers, could be a reason for spreading the pandemic as the virus could travel into the cover and may affect the contents of the cover was put forward.

The Division Bench of Chief Justice Sanjib Banerjee and Justice Senthil Kumar Ramamoorthy said, “The state should take note of the suggestion and create awareness or issue instructions to all businesses, where such practice may be in vogue, to encourage the management to educate the employees, so that they refrain from continuing with the practice in the concerned petition.”

The Court has directed the State Government to file a report as to the steps taken in pursuance of the suggestion and further listed the matter on July 6. ILNS/HS/RJ
