Unnao, Mar 27 (ILNS) An Additional District and Sessions Judge of Unnao, who is also the Special Judge in the Pocso Act Court, has written a letter to Governor Anandiben Patel, requesting for voluntary retirement from judicial service on personal grounds, after being assaulted by the lawyers of Unnao Bar Association.
A copy of the letter, written by ADSJ Prahlad Tandon yesterday, was also sent to the Registrar General of Allahabad High Court and the District Judge of Unnao.
The ADSJ had also handed over a complaint letter to the SHO, Unnao (Kotwali Police Station), requesting him to initiate an immediate inquiry into the alleged incident.alleging that he was abused, kicked and slapped within the premises of his courtroom by the members of the Unnao Bar Association. The letter named 15 lawyers and around 150 unidentified lawyers for the attack. A First Information Report (FIR) was registered against the Advocates, who were mentioned in the letter.
As per the Judge’s letter, on March 25 at around 1100 hrs, a mob of 150-200 lawyers, along with the President and the General Secretary of the Bar Association, entered courtroom number 11, where the Judge was sitting and started shouting slogans and throwing chairs and tables in the courtroom.
The Judge alleged that he was slapped and assaulted by these Advocates, before he was eventually rescued by the court staff.
“I tried to go to my chamber, these people surrounded me and slapped me, kicked me, pushed me and grabbed my mobile. I ran from the courtroom to the adjoining gallery. They broke into my steno chamber and also broke the glasses of the window,” the letter stated.
Lawyers across the state have condemned the attack on the senior judicial officer. Even in Unnao district court, there was resentment against the lawyers, who attacked the ADJ. Justice DP Singh, former Judge of the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court, condemned the incident and demanded stern action against the lawyers involved in it. ILNS/SNG/RJ
