Influential people getting Covid treatment, not poor, PIL in Bombay HC alleges

-

Mumbai, Apr 21 (ILNS) The Bombay High Court on Tuesday sought a response from the Maharashtra and Central governments on a PIL alleging mismanagement of available resources in bringing COVID-19 under control.

A Bench of Chief Justice Dipankar Dutta and Justice GS Kulkarni asked the Center and the state government to give reply on the issues raised in the PIL till April 22.

Arshil Shah, a local lawyer, had filed a PIL on delayed RT-PCR tests, lack of rapid antigen testing in municipal hospitals, non-availability of beds for Covid-19 patients and non-supply of Remdesivir medicine and proper oxygen for Coronavirus patients.

The petitioner alleged that despite shortage of beds and medicines for common citizens, leaders and film stars having contact with influential people manage to get beds in hospitals and timely treatment.

Mr Shah informed the Bench of Chief Justice Dipankar Dutta and Justice GS Kulkarni that the government claims that (medical) oxygen is not available, while NGOs and temples are distributing it. How are these organisations getting these things, he asked in the petition. ILNS\SS\SJ\RJ
