Goa govt moves Bombay HC against Tejpal acquittal order

-

New Delhi, May 26 (ILNS): As expected, an appeal has been filed before the Bombay High Court, by the State of Goa, against the acquittal order of former Tehelka Editor Tarun Tejpal.

Tejpal was acquitted of sexual assault and rape charges of a female colleague by Additional Sessions Judge Kshama Joshi on May 21.

The appeal has been filed at the Goa Bench of the High Court. it has to be remembered that while the trial against Tejpal was on in 2017, Tejpal had moved the high court, seeking quashing of the case. he had said that the charges were fabricated. When the high court dismissed his plea, he had moved the Supreme Court. the top court refused to intervene and rejected his plea in August 2019.
The case is on 2013, when a female colleague alleged that she was sexually assaulted by Tejpal in an elevator of a five-star Goa hotel. Goa police had registered an FIR for various offences including rape. His arrest was in November 2013 and release on bail in July 2014. ILNS\SJ\RJ
