Gauhati High Court seeks Assam govt’s response on lone playground in Silchar being converted into shopping hub

Gauhati Aug 18(ILNS): The Gauhati High Court on August 16, sought instructions from the state government on an issue regarding a Playground converted into a shopping hub.

A Public Interest Litigation has been filed by one Ali Reja Osmani, in which he contended that the only open place in the neighborhood which is Kol Ghor Ground at Silchar is now being converted into a shopping hub. Hence, the children and the local people will be deprived of their only playground.

The Division Bench comprising of Chief Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia and Justice Manash Ranjan Pathak while considering the PIL directed the state government to seek instruction in the matter.

The Court further seeks instruction from S. Dutta, Senior Counsel who appeared in the matter.

Advocate S.B. Laskar, appeared for the Petitioner whereas P. Sarma, Additional Senior Government Advocate, Assam, appeared for the state government.

The High Court posted the matter on August 23, 2021, for further hearing./ILNS/SS/SNG
