Former EC GVG Krishnamurty passes away


New Delhi, Apr 14 (ILNS) Former Election Commissioner GVG Krishnamurty passed away due to age-related ailments on Wednesday.

The 86-year-old breathed his last at about 1000 hrs. He is survived by his wife Padma Murty, son Dr GV Rao, Senior Advocate, Supreme Court of India and daughter Dr Radha Bodapati.

In a statement here, Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra said that Dr Krishnamurty made exemplary contribution during his tenure in the Commission as Election Commissioner from October 1, 1993 to September 30, 1996.

Mourning the loss of an illustrious former member of the EC family, Mr Chandra said Dr Krishnamurty’s contributions, particularly in strengthening the Laws and procedures of conducting elections, will be long remembered by the Commission.

Dr Krishnamurty’s last rites were held at Lodhi Road crematorium, Delhi. A wreath on behalf of the EC was laid in his honour. ILNS/SNG/RJ
