New Delhi, Jun 28 (ILNS) The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) today successfully flight tested a New Generation Nuclear Capable Ballistic Missile Agni P from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam island off the coast of Odisha, Balasore.

According to a DRDO statement issued here, “Various telemetry and radar stations positioned along the eastern coast tracked and monitored the missile, launched at 1055 hrs. The missile has followed textbook trajectory, meeting all mission objectives with a high level of accuracy.”

Agni P (Prime) is the first of the new class of Agni missile. The ballistic missile weighs 50 percent less than Agni 3 and has new guidance and a new generation of propulsion.

Since the missile is canisterised, it can be launched from rail and road and stored for a longer period and transported all across the country as per operational requirements. This missile is having range capacity between 1,000 and 2,000 km. ILNS\SS\RJ
