Delhi riots: Court grants anticipatory bail to man, whose house got burnt amidst riot

New Delhi, Apr 2 (ILNS) A local court here recently granted protection from arrest to a person, who had knocked the doors of the court fearing his arrest in a case relating to the riots that broke out in the national capital’s North East District last year.

Additional Sessions Judge Vinod Yadav, while granting anticipatory bail to Rashid, also directed the police to file its reply in connection with the plea moved by him.

The case had drawn the attention of the court as Rashid has been named both as an accused and as a complainant in separate cases related to the Delhi riots.

Rashid’s father Hashim Ali had filed a complaint regarding burning down of his house by a mob during the riots, however later, the same was clubbed with another FIR, where he has been named as an accused.

“It is evident that the police did not investigate the complaint of the applicant and now wants to arrest him in the matter,” the court noted, while granting relief to the applicant till the next date of hearing, which is April 24.

Advocate M R Shamshad appeared for Rashid, while Special Public Prosecutor Nitin Rawat represented the Delhi Police. ILNS/ANB/SNG/RJ
