New Delhi, Oct 6 (ILNS) The Delhi High Court today directed the Lady Hardinge Hospital to constitute a medical board to ascertain the feasibility of medical termination of pregnancy of a woman, who has undergone 22 weeks and 5 days of gestation period.
A Single Judge Bench of Justice Rekha Palli directed the Medical Superintendent of Lady Hardinge Hospital to furnish the report ascertaining the feasibility of medical termination of pregnancy of petitioner, within 5 days.
Justice Rekha Palli asked Advocate Sneha Mukherjee, “ You are becoming an expert on MTP (medical termination of pregnancy), all the matters are coming through you only”
Advocate Mukherjee replied by stating “Most of the cases are referred by Gynaecologists, who cannot terminate the pregnancy on their own.”
The petitioner has relied upon an ultrasound report to state, the foetus was suffering from Multicystic dysplastic kidney and if the pregnancy is brought to a natural end, the baby would be born with serious physical deformities.
The matter has been listed for further hearing on October 12.
Earlier, in another case, the High Court had allowed the medical termination of pregnancy of a woman, who has undergone 25weeks of the gestation period.
Justice Rekha Palli allowed the medical termination of pregnancy on account of the foetus has small atrophic matter (aenecephaly), deformed vertebral column and is also suffering from mild ascitis omphalocele and has no chance of survival.
Justice Palli appreciated the Lady Hardinge Hospital for expeditiously forming a Medical Board and submitting a report regarding the feasibility of termination of the petitioner’s pregnancy./ILNS/KR/SNG/
