Delhi HC to hear plea challenging recently-notified IT Rules, 2021

-

New Delhi, May 27 (ILNS) The Delhi High Court will today take up the petition challenging the recently notified Information Technology (Guidelines for intermediaries and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021.

The Bench of Chief Justice DN Patel and Justice Jyoti Singh will hear the petition, contending that the new rules, particularly in their regulation of news media and current affairs, goes beyond the parent Act – the Information Technology Act, 2000.

The new rules ‘go far beyond anything that is permissible in a democracy,’ said the plea, filed by the Foundation of Independent Journalism. ILNS/DS/RJ
