New Delhi, Jun 24 (ILNS) The Delhi High Court today directed the Delhi Police to take adequate steps over the threat to the life of a 19-year-old Hindu girl, who wanted to marry a Muslim boy of her choice against the wishes of her family.
A Single-Judge Bench of Justice Jasmeet Singh issued notice to the state government, the Commissioner of Police and the concerned Station House Officer (SHO). The Court further issued notice to the parents of the girl through the SHO.
The Additional Standing Counsel, appearing for the state, submitted that the contact details of the concerned SHO will be provided to the petitioner, along with the mobile number of a Lady Constable and a Divisional Officer.
In addition, she also submitted that the said officials will be sensitised to the threat and danger perception to the life of the petitioner, and to take adequate steps in this regard.
Advocate Javed Ahmad, appearing for the girl, contended that she wants to marry one Sallu Khan, but her family does not approve of their relationship and wants to fix her marriage with a boy of their choice.
The plea averred that since June 12, 2021, the petitioner is residing at a rented accommodation in Delhi and receiving constant threats from her family members, as a consequence of which, there is apprehension that she may be a victim of honour killing.
The plea further averred that she filed a police complaint against her family members, but no action has been taken till date. In light of the above, the petitioner sought directions to the state to provide her adequate protection for life, as also to save her from the clutches of her parents and take necessary action against them.
