New Delhi, Jul 12(ILNS)The Kejriwal Government today moved the Supreme Court alleging non-supply of adequate water by the State of Haryana saying that, it has forced them to curtail water supply to several areas in the NCT of Delhi including President’s Estate, Parliament House and other institutional and diplomatic buildings, as well as many residential areas.
The petitioner Advocate Shadan Farasat in an urgent mentioning has asked the Supreme Court CJI to list the matter today itself for hearing. The present application has been filed in Contempt Petition (Civil) Provisional No. 10940 of 2021 titled Delhi Jal Board v. Vijai Vardhan & Anr.
According to Advocate for Delhi Jal Board, the Supreme Court had directed previously that the water level at Wazirabad reservoir was to be kept full to its capacity by the State of Haryana, in order to meet the drinking water needs of the NCT of Delhi.
“Due to non-supply of adequate water by the State of Haryana, the water level in the Wazirabad reservoir stands at only 667.60 feet as against the mandated level of 674.50 feet, as on July 10,2021. This means that the Wazirabad reservoir is only 31% full. This has the possibility of triggering a severe water crisis in the NCT of Delhi.
The Petitioner had to curtail water for several areas in the NCT of Delhi including President’s Estate, Parliament House and other institutional and diplomatic buildings, as well as many residential areas,” he said.
He said, that the NCT of Delhi staring at an extremely grave and precipitate water crisis.
Therefore, prayed that the matter be processed for urgent mentioning through VC before the Court of the Chief Justice of India on July 07, 2021 i.e. today itself on most urgent basis.ILNS/SNG
