New Delhi, May 18 (ILNS): The Rohini Court today dismissed the anticipatory bail application filed by double Olympic medallist wrestler Sushil Kumar, who is among the accused in the murder of a 23-year-old wrestler Sagar Rana at the Chhatrasal Stadium.
The order was passed by Additional Sessions Judge Jagdish Kumar.
Sushil Kumar’s anticipatory bail plea submitted that he is the only Indian to win back-to-back Olympic medals and that he is a law-abiding citizen, with no criminal antecedents and has never been involved in any criminal proceedings.
The application further stated that the unfounded, baseless, scurrilous and preposterous allegations have been made against him maliciously, with the only motive to humiliate and injure his reputation.
The reply filed by Delhi Police, which has announced an award of Rs one lakh for information on Sushil, said that Sushil Kumar and his associates are absconding and evading the arrest. It added that Sushil Kumar is the main accused in the matter, playing the key role in the commission of the offence.
“There is every apprehension that accused Sushil Kumar can use his criminal linkage to threaten the witnesses, as he is very influential person and has muscleman backup,” said Delhi Police.
The Counsel appearing for Sushil Kumar stated that the victim in the matter has a criminal background and even found to be a member of a local gang. ILNS\GM\SJ\RJ
