Delhi Court closes defamation case against Somnath Bharti

New Delhi, May 20 (ILNS) A Delhi court today closed a defamation case against Aam Aadmi Party Legislator Somnath Bharti after journalist Ranjana Dwivedi decided to compound the case, in view of an apology tendered to her.

Dwivedi had filed the case against Bharti for allegedly using objectionable language against her and hurling abuses during a live television debate show.

“In view of the aforesaid submissions made and statements of the parties recorded today, particularly statement of the complainant regarding compounding of the present complaint case against the accused, present complaint case stands disposed of as compounded,” Judge Sachin Gupta, Special MP/MLA Court, Rouse Avenue ordered.

In his statement before the Avenue, Bharti said that his statements were not directed towards Dwivedi. He offered his sincere and deepest apology, if he hurt the sentiments of the complainant in any way.

In view of the apology, Dwivedi agreed to compound the present case against Bharti and withdraw her FIR against Bharti under Sections 504/509 IPC.
