New Delhi, Jun 26 (ILNS) A Delhi Court has adjourned hearing into the INX Media case money laundering case involving former Union Minister P Chidambaram and his son Karti Chidambaram, till July 9.
The case was earlier supposed to be taken up for further hearing on May 25, but the summer vacations for District Courts were preponed from May 17 to June 3 by the order of the High Court dated May 14, 2021.
It was also directed by the High Court that the “cases listed between May 17, 2021 to June 3, 2021 shall be taken up from June 14, 2021 to June 30, 2021 on the corresponding working days and the existing system of hearing the matters in the District Courts in Delhi shall continue up to June 30, 2021”.
“Only urgent cases are to be taken up through video-conferencing mode and all other pending routine/nonurgent matters are to be adjourned enbloc. Hence, in view of the above, the present case has been taken up today and as per directions of the PO, the matter is adjourned enbloc to July 9 for further proceeding/consideration/arguments on the bail application of A10, as well as on the date already fixed,” the June 22 order read.
Chidambaram was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on August 21, 2019 in the INX Media corruption case involving more than Rs 300 crore.
CBI had registered a case on May 15, 2017, alleging irregularities in the approval given by the Foreign Investment Promotion Board to INX Media Group in 2007 to receive Rs 305 crore from abroad. Chidambaram was the Finance Minister during this period. Later, the ED also registered a case in this regard.
His son Karti Chidambaram was arrested by CBI in February, 2018. In March 2018, the Delhi High Court granted bail to Karti in the money laundering case. ILNS/SHV/RJ
