Mumbai, Oct 14, (ILNS) A Mumbai court today reserved its order on the bail petition of Aryan Khan arrested by NCB in a cruise drug bust case. The order is likely to be pronounced on October 20.
Special Judge V V Patil, after hearing the lengthy arguments from both the prosecution and the defence reserved its order which is likely to be pronounced next week.
The arguments on the bail petition continued for two days. Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) opposed the bail plea filed by Aryan, saying the probe so far has revealed his role in the conspiracy and illicit procurement and consumption of drugs. NCB stated that Khan was a regular consumer of drugs for the last few years. In its affidavit, the NCB also claimed that Aryan Khan was in touch with some persons, who appear to be a part of an international drug network for procurement of drugs. Further probe is on with regard to financial transactions done abroad, the agency said.
Khan’s Counsel Senior Advocate Amit Desai argued that his client was a person affected by the drug abuse. He is a person on the bottom of the chain, a consumer affected by the drug menace as per the government’s own national policy on narcotics drugs, he said. Calling the Narcotics Control Bureau’s (NCB) allegations of “illicit drug trafficking” against Aryan as “inherently absurd”, his lawyer said a reformative approach is needed, as his client has suffered enough.
Aryan was arrested along with his friend Arbaaz Merchant and model Munmun Dhamecha on October 2, on a ship that had arranged a two day trip from Mumbai to Goa./ILNS/SNG
