Allahabad (ILNS): The Allahabad High Court today asked the Uttar Pradesh Government to file its reply on a PIL seeking Special Courts to tackle cases against human trafficking under the Prevention of Unlawful Human Trafficking Act, 1956.
Chief Justice Govind Mathur and Justice Piyush Aggarwal while hearing the PIL filed by Social Organisation, Guria directed the state to file its reply by January 18, 2021 on the possibility of having special courts to deal with cases of Human Trafficking.
The PIL alleged that human trafficking is increasing rapidly in Uttar Pradesh and due to lack of courts and other infrastructure adequate steps have not been taken to curb it.
During the cross-examination, the Counsel for the Petitioner brought to the notice of the Court that such smuggling was in full strength even during the prohibitions of Covid-19. A study done by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime was also presented before the Court.
While giving time to the State Government to file a Counter Affidavit, the Court said, “After considering all the documents mentioned in the Petition, we consider it appropriate to call for a response from the state.”
The matter will be next heard on January 18, 2021. ILNS/SS
